By far, one of the most important factors of running a successful shoe fundraiser is getting people involved! Getting the word out and spreading your message is crucial to your fundraiser’s success and is easier done than you may think!

Utilize social media to promote your shoe fundraiser

This one may seem obvious, but so many people are unaware of or inexperienced with certain social media platforms. Familiarize yourself with the ins and outs of social media. To do this, you don’t need to spend countless hours learning the finer mechanics of every social media platform.

Simply pick a few platforms that work for you, as an example Facebook and Instagram, and learn how to utilize hashtags, follow pages and people with similar goals and interests, and make an effort to network with those who may be useful contributors to your shoe fundraiser.

Once you feel confident with a few platforms, challenge yourself to learn how to use a new one. Make a funny video on Snapchat or an informative series on Tik Tok. The more online presence you create, the more exposure you will generate for your shoe fundraiser, and ultimately this is how you will raise the most money.

Create eye-catching media for your shoe fundraiser

This can be done in a number of ways. As previously mentioned, perhaps it is in your best interest to make a series of videos informing people of your shoe fundraiser, or make comedic little shorts that grab people’s attention while they are endlessly scrolling.
Keep in mind, however, that you do not need to limit yourself only to digital media. Hit up a local art store and grab some supplies. Make bright and exciting posters, add some entertaining imagery or even a meme, and just like that you will have created something that causes people to stop and take a second look.
Once you have created your media, reach out to local businesses and organizations. Ask if you may hang or display your creation to spread awareness for your shoe fundraiser. Emphasize that what you are doing comes at no cost to their business or company and that all funds raised will be going towards a good cause.

Canvas your neighborhood with information

Sometimes even in this age of information, nothing beats good old fashioned canvasing. If you have already created media or fliers online, find a way to transfer them into physical versions of the information and distribute them locally.
You may find it effective to leave fliers on your neighbor’s windshields or mailboxes informing them about your shoe fundraiser. Perhaps your local grocery store, rec center, or post office has a community board where you can find a home for your media.
One incredibly innovative shoe fundraiser organizer took it upon themselves to create a form of “self-checkout” donating. They created eye-catching fliers explaining their shoe fundraiser with all appropriate information and a contact form. Next, they attached bags to each flier with a note asking that any donatable shoes be left outside in the bag to be picked up the next morning. These bags and fliers were left on the doorsteps of many community members and when the organizer arrived the next morning to collect, they were overjoyed to see how many filled bags of shoe donations had been left out for them.

Promote your shoe fundraiser across local media

It may seem obvious that not everyone has access to air-time on their local news or radio networks, however, gaining the ability to utilize this type of media may be easier than you think. It can never hurt to call your local radio and television stations and see if they would be interested in briefly allowing you to feature your shoe fundraiser on their platform.

Draft up a press release detailing your shoe fundraiser and send it to the editor’s office at your local paper. The great thing about partnering with The Fundraising Company to run your shoe fundraiser, is that you will be partnered with a personal fundraising guide who will do these things for you!

Lastly, if you have exhausted all efforts in trying to shoe your way into local media to no avail, consider starting on a smaller scale. Perhaps you know someone with a podcast who would be willing to help you get the word out, and if not, maybe it’s a great time to start your own!

Partner with larger organizations to promote your fundraiser

If you are already working with a larger organization than yourself, this may be something that you are already doing. For instance, if you are running a shoe fundraiser through a school or athletics program, they likely have a website or social media page that can be used to reach the masses that already follow them.

Explore the companies and organizations around you that may be willing to contribute to your shoe fundraiser. Spend some time researching and try to look for companies that have “corporate responsibility” programs or something similar. Oftentimes large companies already have giving initiatives in place where they allocate a certain amount of money annually to be donated.

It may be beneficial to find a company who’s primary focus lies in retail, clothing, and of course, shoes. These large corporations may have old stock or un-useable inventory that they would be happy to donate to your shoe fundraiser. Some large companies like Nike, already have in-house programs where they break down old stock to create things like playgrounds and running tracks from the old shoe materials.

At the end of the day it is up to you to determine how successful your shoe fundraiser will be. That does not mean, however, that you have to do the work alone. The Fundraising Company has a plethora of resources and other great tools to help you accomplish all of your 2021 fundraising goals!
